Algebra and Geometry are BOTH useable Math!

I had a WONDERFUL time at the FPEA meeting new families! Many youth called our booth, "the fun booth" and that made my heart smile! We had several physic gadgets for the youth to have fun discovering how and why the gadgets worked. I do believe that we were one of the few booths that invited the youth to come and touch items.
I did have one mom that informed me that "algebra" is a math that is never used in "trades". I have decided that I will debunk that myth once a week by illustrating "algebra" being used in "real life or in a trade". So to start with, I came across this video as I was searching for information on how my boys can build our family a swimming pool. I am not endorsing this product, I am simply sharing useable algebra and geometry.
In the video, the Pythagorean theorem is used as well as slope and intercepts. Both of these concepts are algebra! The guys do not say, "we are about to use the Pythagorean theorem" but that is exactly what they are using! You will also see geometry used as the guys measure the corners at the bottom of the pool as well as the radius of the pool.
Enjoy this short video demonstrating algebra and geometry being used in the swimming pool trade.
