Life happens, and sometimes life in the homeschool family causes our children to get behind in math. The next thing we know, our child is in high school. What do we do? Do we continue to buy and use elementary level workbooks that have colorful pictures and expect our 15 year old to use them? Or buy an Algebra 1 curriculum and struggle just to get started because he does not have a math foundation to even begin? No! Enroll your child in E=mc Academy TODAY and let me help your child get caught up!
The Pre-Algebra class is designed for the student that is behind in math and is in high school. We start the course off literally learning addition, subtraction, multiplication and long division. We progress to fractions and decimals and before the year is half way over, the student is calculating how much interest is earned when an investment is compounded quarterly for five years.
The first half of the year, the student is not allowed to use a calculator. This is because we are building math muscles. Once the student understands why a problem is solved using specific order of operations, then we introduce the calculator; but only when the student is proficient at addition and subtraction of mixed numbers, multiplication of fractions and decimals, and long division.
